July 2013 Trip to New York: Flight DL 106 JFK to FRA

After a last great night’s sleep at the DoubleTree hotel it was time to say goodbye. After a final breakfast we fetched our bags in our room, went down to second floor, checked out, and then were on our way. Taking two subway trains we reached the station before Jamaice Center where we could take the AirTrain towards JFK Airport. We entered the newly remodeled terminal T4 and after looking around we found the Sky Priority check-in area. After an easy check-in procedure we almost raced through security and then headed first towards the Oasis lounge where we had access with our Priority Pass cards. Weiterlesen

July 2013 Trip to New York: New York City Day 4

On our fourth and final day in New York breakfast at our hotel was a bit different than on the other days. The cold options were all present at the buffet, however, the hot options were not present. Instead they could be ordered at no extra cost. Funny way of handling things differently on holidays (it was Fourth of July). After breakfast we walked to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and took the first available ferry to Staten Island. Weiterlesen

July 2013 Trip to New York: New York City Day 3

On our third day in New York we decided to first go see the UN plaza and this unique building. That’s nothing spectacular, but before our trip I noted that we had been already relatively close to this place but we hadn’t ever seen it in real life. Weiterlesen

July 2013 Trip to New York: New York City Day 2

On our second day in New York we decided to visit several places from the two movies You’ve Got Mail and When Harry Met Sally. After another delicious breakfast at the hotel we took a subway train to the Washington Square. In front of the memorial arch was the scene where Harry and Sally arrived and said goodbye to each other, not knowing that they would meet again and again. This is a nice park close to the campus of the NYU. I guess that’s the university where Sally wanted to study journalism and not calisthenics or gymnastics (the last several times I saw the movie, it was in German). Weiterlesen

July 2013 Trip to New York: New York City Day 1

On our first day we ventured out towards the WTC area including the Freedom Tower and the 9/11 Memorial after we had some good breakfast at the hotel. We took a quick subway ride to get closer and then walked the final few steps. The view of the Freedom Tower which had reached its final height of 1,776 ft was very impressive. Weiterlesen

Last December I looked for some low level award flights in BusinessElite with the itinerary starting in Frankfurt. I narrowed down my search to a roundtrip between FRA and JFK and for dates in the summer. As already written in my travel plans for this year I then found low level flights on the following dates

Day Date Org Dest Flight No Dep Time Arr Time Plane Type
Sun 06/30 FRA JFK DL 107 1345 1625 B767-300ER
Fri 07/05 JFK FRA DL 106 2009 1020 B767-300ER

After my post last December it just happened so that a few schedule changes occurred. As mentioned, this roundtrip was priced at the low level, so I spent 200k miles for the two of us. That was awesome, however, the cash part (taxes and fees) was not quite nice, it were a little more than 480 EUR per person that needed to be paid out of pocket. Well, that’s the way it is. At least the number of miles was reasonable.

I then looked at Hilton and Starwood hotels to find some accomodation for that period. A main factor in deciding was the room rate, so I ended up in booking the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in the Financial District.

March 2013 Trip to California: Dinner at Ruby Tuesday

After checking in at the Hampton Inn ATL we put our bags into our room and I snapped a few photos. Then we took an elevator ride downstairs, exited the hotel, and walked across the street to get to the conveniently located Ruby Tuesday restaurant.

It was not just an ordinary friday, but it was Good Friday, so the restaurant was very packed. After we got our name put down we waited a little more than a quarter of an hour until we were called and led to our table. Now it was time to have some fun! It was our last night of our trip and we did not want to sit around in a sad mood. Instead we wanted to have a good time. Weiterlesen
