After we had picked up our car at Hertz LAX we hit the road towards Fresno. On our way we stopped at a Denny’s restaurant to have some breakfast and then headed to some Wal-Mart to stock up on water, Coke Zero, and some other stuff. Then we continued on to Fresno.
Somewhen in the afternoon we arrived at the Red Roof Inn where we had a booked an overnight stay. This was some kind of an interesting property to put it this way. It was nice that it had interior corridors. I count that as a plus. Weiterlesen
Hilton just announced their new promotion for the first quarter of 2013. Registration is already open. You may choose between either double points or double miles for stays between January 7 and March 31, 2013.
Once you have selected either option, you are automatically registered and cannot change your selection anymore. To take advantage of this offer you have to register before check-out of your first stay during the „Promotion Period“.
As is often the case with Hilton promotions, the list of non-participating hotels is very large. I had just completed two bookings of one-night stays right before I received the e-mail. Luckily, both hotels are not in this list.

Here is an overview of my status with several loyalty programs that I have reached with this year’s end. Well, I haven’t earned each status the hard way by flying or staying enough. Sometimes it’s simply a credit card benefit. Anyway, here it goes.
After landing at CVG and picking up our bags we went outside the terminal building to the hotel shuttle area and waited for our shuttle. Considering how near the hotel is to the airport it was kind of funny that waiting for the shuttle was the longest part. Well, bad timing 😉
After one great night at the Sheraton Ontario Airport we checked out and crossed the street to get to the next Denny’s. We did not get upgraded to a club level room so we went there for breakfast.
Besides our usual iced tea we both built our own slams as we often do. Karin had egg whites, wheat toast, turkey bacon, and hash browns, while I went for scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, turkey bacon, hash browns, wheat toast, and wheat pancakes. After we were fed we were back on the road again.
Our next hotel was the EconoLodge near LAX which is only a short drive away. So what to do with this day? We didn’t know when we took off and just cruised along.
After a good night’s sleep at the Sleep Inn & Suites we checked out and took ourselves to some Denny’s near CA-99 that we had spotted the night before on our way to the Black Angus.
We both ordered iced tea and built our own slams. Karin went for egg whites, a chicken sausage patty, two slices of wheat toast, and a couple wheat pancakes. Of course, I decided to max out and order six items, which were scrambled eggs, a chicken sausage patty, two strips of turkey bacon, hash browns, two slices of wheat toast, and a slice of grilled ham.
It turns out that I don’t have any pictures of this visit to a Denny’s but I guess you know how this stuff looks like 😉
After we checked out of the Days Inn & Suites in Hayward we traveled down south towards Gilroy. Somewhere along our way we stopped at a Wal-Mart to stock up on some stuff like bread and beverages. Inside the Wal-Mart building we had breakfast at a Subway restaurant. We both ate a footlong Subway Club.
Then we went on to the Gilroy Premium Outlets to do some more shopping (there is always something to look for, stuff for ourselves and for our friends and family back home).
After our second day in San Francisco and dinner at the Black Angus Steakhouse in San Lorenzo we drove to the Days Inn & Suites in Hayward where we had booked a room for two nights. It was tough luck for that hotel that we came there after our two-night stay at the W Silicon Valley.
Last year we stayed at a different Days Inn in Hayward where we sometimes had problems to find an empty slot on its parking lot. Luckily, we did not have that problem this time. They are a little tight but it was still okay.
After dinner at the Black Bear Diner in Walnut Creek and getting back to our car at our friend’s house we drove to the W Silicon Valley in Newark. We arrived there around midnight, parked the car near the entrance and entered the building. I was greeted at the Welcome Desk by a friendly agent who efficiently checked us in and we were assigned suite 444.
