July 2013 Trip to New York: Flight DL 106 JFK to FRA

After a last great night’s sleep at the DoubleTree hotel it was time to say goodbye. After a final breakfast we fetched our bags in our room, went down to second floor, checked out, and then were on our way. Taking two subway trains we reached the station before Jamaice Center where we could take the AirTrain towards JFK Airport. We entered the newly remodeled terminal T4 and after looking around we found the Sky Priority check-in area. After an easy check-in procedure we almost raced through security and then headed first towards the Oasis lounge where we had access with our Priority Pass cards. Weiterlesen

Last December I looked for some low level award flights in BusinessElite with the itinerary starting in Frankfurt. I narrowed down my search to a roundtrip between FRA and JFK and for dates in the summer. As already written in my travel plans for this year I then found low level flights on the following dates

Day Date Org Dest Flight No Dep Time Arr Time Plane Type
Sun 06/30 FRA JFK DL 107 1345 1625 B767-300ER
Fri 07/05 JFK FRA DL 106 2009 1020 B767-300ER

After my post last December it just happened so that a few schedule changes occurred. As mentioned, this roundtrip was priced at the low level, so I spent 200k miles for the two of us. That was awesome, however, the cash part (taxes and fees) was not quite nice, it were a little more than 480 EUR per person that needed to be paid out of pocket. Well, that’s the way it is. At least the number of miles was reasonable.

I then looked at Hilton and Starwood hotels to find some accomodation for that period. A main factor in deciding was the room rate, so I ended up in booking the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in the Financial District.

After checking out of the Super 8 and returning our rental car to Hertz we took a complimentary bus ride to the airport and were dropped off right in front of terminal 5 where Delta operates out of. We checked in at one of the airport kiosks where I also paid our bag fees (on domestic flights only our first checked bag is free, the second checked bag costs $25). The we dropped off our bags and proceeded to the security checkpoint. Weiterlesen

Schedule and equipment changes

Last month I posted about my travel plans for 2013 including already booked flights. Since then there have already been a couple of schedule changes and one equipment change.

My first trip that consists of four flights already has two flights changed. The domestic leg from ATL to LAX both experienced an equipment change and a schedule change. The segment is now flown with a B757-200 instead of a B767-300. The flight departs ATL at 1925 and arrives at LAX at 2129. This results in a layover at ATL of 3:45h instead of 3:25h.

The last segment ATL to FRA has been moved to a little later time. It now is scheduled to leave ATL at 1625 and to arrive at FRA at 0755.

My second trip in July to New York starts later as planned. This flight now leaves FRA at 1345 and arrives at JFK at 1625.
