March 2013 Trip to California: Sleep Inn & Suites in Bakersfield

When we arrived in Bakersfield we first stopped at the Black Angus restaurant to have some nice dinner which was fabulous as usual. We both had some great tasting steaks.

Then we steered towards the Sleep Inn & Suites where I had booked a room for one night. Upon entering the hotel the front desk is found on the right side. We were quickly checked in and were assigned room 208. Weiterlesen

March 2013 Trip to California: Clarion Hotel in Concord

After a day in San Francisco and dinner with our friend at a place he had suggested we drove to our next hotel, the Clarion Hotel in Concord. I had booked us a room for three nights at a pretty good rate of around $50 per night. I thought the appearance of the hotel was quite impressive considered what we paid for our stay. Weiterlesen

Choice Privileges Promotion: Take Two Trips, Earn a Free Night

After Choice Hotels announced a promotion for US based members of the Choice Privileges program they also announced a somewhat similar promotion for European members.

After each second stay enough points are added to one’s account to reach the 8,000 point level. This promotion is capped at a total of 48,000 points. That is, twelve stays equaling six times 8,000 points. Stays have to be booked at eligible rates and this promotion runs from February, 28 until May, 15, 2013.

While for Comfort, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, and Ascend Hotel Collection hotels stays of any length count, stays at EconoLodge, Rodeway Inn, Suburban Extended Stay Hotels, and MainStay Suites have to have a minimum length of two nights.

As it seems, no registration is necessary.

If one has a number of one night stays at low-priced properties this is a great promotion, however, the more you pay for two consecutive stays, the less bonus points you earn.

For my upcoming trip this month I had booked three different stays at Choice hotels. Unfortunately, the first two stays are of two and three nights length, while the last stay is a one-nighter. Nightly rates for the three different properties are comparable. Points-wise it would have been better, if the three-night stay would have been my third stay. Well, bad luck, but better than nothing.

Fall 2012 Vacation in California: EconoLodge Near LAX

After one great night at the Sheraton Ontario Airport we checked out and crossed the street to get to the next Denny’s. We did not get upgraded to a club level room so we went there for breakfast.

Besides our usual iced tea we both built our own slams as we often do. Karin had egg whites, wheat toast, turkey bacon, and hash browns, while I went for scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, turkey bacon, hash browns, wheat toast, and wheat pancakes. After we were fed we were back on the road again.

Our next hotel was the EconoLodge near LAX which is only a short drive away. So what to do with this day? We didn’t know when we took off and just cruised along.

Fall 2012 Vacation in California: Sleep Inn & Suites Bakersfield

After we checked out of the Days Inn & Suites in Hayward we traveled down south towards Gilroy. Somewhere along our way we stopped at a Wal-Mart to stock up on some stuff like bread and beverages. Inside the Wal-Mart building we had breakfast at a Subway restaurant. We both ate a footlong Subway Club.

Then we went on to the Gilroy Premium Outlets to do some more shopping (there is always something to look for, stuff for ourselves and for our friends and family back home).

Fall 2012 Vacation in California: Comfort Inn in Mariposa

Between the two days in Yosemite NP we stayed at the Comfort Inn in Mariposa. We arrived there in the late afternoon and were quickly checked in. We were given room 153, which was, surprisingly, on the second floor.

Fall 2012 Vacation in California: Comfort Inn in Oakhurst

After our delicious breakfast at the Embassy Suites we hit the road and traveled to Oakhurst which lies on CA-41 between Fresno and the Yosemite NP. This was quite a nice drive with changing scenery, no difficult mountain roads, beautiful weather, plentiful sunshine, and, last but not least, we were on a vacation!

Somewhere between LA and Oakhurst, I don’t remember where exactly it was,  we stopped at a Subway to have a quick lunch. Karin had a 6″ turkey sub and I had a roasted chicken salad.
